Lexus 700H Dissent Off-Road Build: Dissent Armor, 74 Weld Portal Axles, 37" Tires, ADGU & More

Lexus LX 700h Off-Road Build: Built In-House at Our Lexus Off-Road Shop in Colfax, CA
This 2026 Lexus LX 700h Overtrail was shipped to our shop in Colfax, CA for a full build, and like every Dissent Off-Road build, the level of detail on this Lexus is on another level. Every Dissent part on this truck was designed and fabricated in-house, and every part on the truck was installed in-house by our team.
The entire build is centered around our Signature Dissent Off-Road spec: full Dissent armor, Dissent roof rack, 74 Weld portal axles, dual snorkels, overland drawer system, along with a larger wheel/tire package that no off-the-shelf part was made to accommodate. And for that fitment, we fabricate all our own inner fender fitment kits in-house, bringing the truck back to an OEM-spec finish.
If you're looking for a high-end Lexus off-road shop that specializes in Portal Axle installs, wheel/tire fitment, OEM-spec tire clearance, and Portal Axle break-in service, you found it.
Dissent is more than an armor manufacturer. We build some of the most dialed Toyota/Lexus trucks out there. That's what we do here at the shop: full builds, done right the first time.
An odd place to start, but let's start with the fender wells, which are typically the most "unfinished" part of every build. Most off-road shops stop at a traditional open-cut fender liner, and you can barely drive away from their shop without your tires rubbing.
We design and fabricate custom aluminum inner fender liners and trim finishes that bring the wheel wells back to an OEM-spec finish, so they look like they rolled out of the Lexus factory this way. We approach every build with that same OEM-spec mindset. The brackets, mounts, and fitment pieces are one-off parts designed, cut, and finished here at the shop specifically for the LX 700 or GX 550. Check out this post for an example GX 550 build.
Portal axles are where we really separate ourselves. Dissent is currently the largest buyer and installer of 74 Weld portal axles in the country, with more portal installs on Lexus and Toyota trucks than any other shop in the US to date. We also worked directly with 74 Weld to develop the portal axles for the LX 700h.
Every full Dissent build features our in-house armor line: front and rear bumpers, rock sliders, skid plates, roof rack, custom dual snorkels, and much more. From the inner fender liners and flares to the portal axle fitment, wheel and tire clearance, and lighting, this is what a high-end Lexus off-road build looks like when it's done right. We are the premier Lexus and Toyota off-road shop in the nation, and this truck is a good example of why.
If you're looking for a Lexus off-road truck builder/installer that specializes in portal axles and a level of detail you won't find at any other shop, you've found the right home.
Let's jump into this Lexus LX 700h Overtrail build.
LX 700h Low Profile Modular Front Winch Bumper

Our LX 700h low-profile front bumper was designed around 3D scans of the LX 700h, giving us precise digital measurements of the exterior body lines and mounting points. The result is a bumper that fits tight all the way around and follows the Lexus body lines as they came from the factory.
The bumper is a modular design built from a combination of 10-gauge steel, 1/4" steel mounts, and 1/2" steel recovery points. Every bolt on the bumper is Grade 8 or 10.9 hardware. The recovery points are recessed for a better approach angle and tapered for soft shackles, and the winch fairlead is recessed as well, keeping the front end tight and tucked against the body.
Strength is always a priority. A lot of bumpers on the market bolt straight to the face of the frame horns, but the factory frame horns were designed for impact, not for being pulled on during a recovery. That's why our front bumper includes frame reinforcement braces that wrap around the side of the frame, so the load from a winch pull or recovery is spread into the frame properly instead of hanging off the tips of the horns.
LX 700 Front Bumper Features
- Open-face triple fog pockets and integrated scoops that keep airflow moving to the intercoolers
- Large openings for easy winch access
- Accepts winches from 8,000 to 12,500 lb
- Includes a filler plate that ties directly into our skid plate system
- Front parking sensors stay untouched on the low-profile front bumper
- Sheet metal ties into our custom inner fender liners for a fully finished look at the wheel wells
Each bumper comes with a full lighting package, a 30" light bar in the center and triple pods on each side, available in Baja Designs or Rigid. This build features the Baja Designs S2 SAE Triple Fog Light Package and a Baja Designs 30" S8 Light Bar (Clear) in the center. For recovery, we installed a ComeUp Solo 12.5rs Trail Edition winch, our Dissent Winch Wiring Kit, and an Agency6 Winch Shackle Block (Black).
Custom Aluminum Inner Fender Liners for 37" Portal Axle Fitment

This is one of those details that no other off-road shop provides, and for good reason: it's incredibly detailed and time-consuming. Once you see our portal axle fender well fitment kits, it's hard to look at another portal build the same way.
Fitting 37" tires on portal axles means the front of the factory inner fender liner has to go. Most shops cut it open and move on, leaving the entire fender well unfinished/ open to rocks, dirt, debris, and more.
We remove the front section of the factory liner and fabricate a new one here at the shop out of 1/16" aluminum. We also 3D print custom inserts to close everything up and tie the aluminum fender liner back to the bumper and fender flares. The finished wheel well looks factory, with full clearance for the 37s at full lock and full stuff.
This is standard on our LX 700h & GX 550 portal axle builds running 37s, and it's one of those additions that completes a build to OEM-spec finish.
LX 700h Low Profile Modular Rear Bumper

Like our low profile front bumper, the LX 700h rear bumper was designed from 3D scans and follows the factory Lexus body lines incredibly well, finished with the Dissent Off-Road badge.
The goal with this bumper is simple: more protection and more clearance, while still looking like it belongs on the 700.
The rear bumper is a steel and aluminum hybrid, with a steel center section and aluminum wings to keep weight down. The steel center maintains the factory hitch and all of the factory towing capacities, so you're not giving anything up when it's time to pull a trailer. The trailer plug stays in its factory location, too.
Lexus 700 Rear Bumper Features
- Semi-recessed recovery points, tapered for soft shackles
- Grade 8 and 10.9 hardware, with stainless hardware on the top plate
- Rear parking sensors are relocated and fully retained
- Integrated reverse lighting
For lighting on this build, the rear bumper is finished with Baja Designs S2 Wide Cornering lights as reverse lights.
Dissent Signature Builds - Colfax, CA
Toyota/Lexus Trucks, Fully Built From Start to Finish
Dissent Off-Road is not your average Off-Road shop. We focus on custom high-end builds done right the first time, with attention to detail and OEM-spec finishes you won't find at any other off-road shop in the nation. If you're looking for an off-road-ready Toyota/Lexus, fully built from start to finish, Dissent offers everything needed at our shop in Colfax, CA, and delivers it to your door when we're done. The process is simple: you ship your truck to our shop, we build it, and we ship it back.
LX 700h Rock Slider Steps

Our LX 700h rock sliders are built from 1/4" aluminum, and they're body-mounted, and there's a reason why.
The LX 700h uses Active Height Control (AHC), and that hydraulic system takes up most of the frame rail real estate you'd normally use to mount a slider. To frame mount on this platform, you have to undo the AHC mounting bolts and work around the hydraulic lines, and the chances of something going or damaging that system are high. Even then, there's very little room to mount sliders on this truck, so you're sacrificing a lot of strength. We chose to leave the factory AHC completely untouched.
Instead, our sliders mount to the strongest point of the rocker, the pinch weld. Four 1/4" aluminum brackets per side bolt to the factory step mounting points. We then install M6 rivnuts along the full length of the rocker, about 10 per side, and the slider body slips over the brackets and bolts through along that pinch weld. Each slider is engineered to contact the strongest section of the rocker along its entire length, so loads are distributed evenly instead of concentrated in a few spots.
The rocker panel on these trucks is structural and handles weight and impact without an issue. What causes damage on the trail is thin sheet metal meeting a rock.
Lexus 700 Rock Slider Features
- Zero deflection, tested under the full weight of the vehicle
- Stronger than the frame mounted options currently on the market for this platform
- About 3" of added clearance; we trim the factory trim so the slider tucks up tight to the doors
- No changes to the factory AHC system
- A full boat side skid plate that bolts to the slider brackets and covers the AHC accumulators and hydraulics
LX 700h Aluminum Skid Plate System

When it comes to skid plates on the Lexus 700, it really depends on which model you have. We cover what's important depending on the trim package, and we tuck everything up and follow the lines of the truck so you never lose clearance to your armor.
Our LX 700h skid plate system is aluminum, gusseted, and reinforced, covering the engine and transmission back to the rear crossmember. We don't make a transfer case skid for this platform, because the t-case already sits high and tight with a solid factory steel skid bolted directly to it. The system ties into the filler plate on our front bumper for full coverage from the bumper back.
The Overtrail also comes with a good factory skid setup, and on a portal axle truck with 37s, you'll rarely touch the belly.
For customers who wheel harder trails, or who are building a non-Overtrail LX, our aluminum skids are the upgrade we recommend.
LX 700h Aluminum Roof Rack + Agency6 Grab Handles

Our LX 700h roof rack is built to hug the roofline on the 700 body.
The LX is a tricky one because the roof slopes way down at the back, so we added a rear fairing that drops down to match the angle of the rear window. That signature curved corner gives you a clean look and a solid place to mount whatever you need. You won't see any other rack like this on the market.
The rack is built from 3/16" aluminum on the main skirts and 1/8" aluminum on the load bars. We're not fans of the traditional extruded 80/20 T-slot load bars. They're strong, but they aren't rigid, and they start to bounce as soon as you put weight on them. You also lose the ability to through-bolt anything.
So we designed our own formed aluminum C-channel load bar with slotted cutouts and our own drop-in nut plates. You can slide hardware in like a T-slot, or through-bolt directly through the bar, and it's lighter and much more rigid than a standard extruded bar.
Here is where we really separate ourselves from other LX700 roof racks on the market. On the LX, removing the factory roof rails means dropping the headliner, which is how most companies do it. We designed a no-drill clamp system that clamps the whole rack to the factory roof rails instead. No headliner removal, no drilling, no permanent modifications, and it's incredibly strong.
LX700 Roof Rack Features
- Front fairing options: 40" linkable light bars, 40" solid light bars, or a solid fairing with no light bar
- Provisions for scene lighting and grab handles
- Slots and holes throughout for mounting accessories
- Upper mounting point for our custom dual snorkels, so there's no drilling into the A-pillar
This build is finished with Agency6 grab handles for easy access to everything on the roof.
Black Stainless Hardware, Standard on Every LX Rack

Every LX roof rack we install is finished with black stainless hardware.
It's corrosion-resistant like standard stainless, but the black finish disappears into the rack instead of catching your eye at every bolt. It's a minor detail, but it really gives the build an OEM-spec finish.
LX 700h Custom Dual Snorkels

Our LX 700h dual snorkels are fully fabricated from .090" wall aluminum and fully TIG welded. These are true snorkels, built to be waterproof, not just a cold air intake with a scoop on top.
They're semi-modular. A fully fabricated main duct mounts inside the fender and runs from the airbox up to where we cut the fender/snorkel body seals and then mates to that surface.
It's aluminum all the way to the airbox, with a single silicone 90 adapting the ducting into the airbox. Edge trim finishes the snorkel where it meets the body, and the upper mount attaches to our roof rack, so there's no drilling into the A-pillar.
LX 700h Dual Snorkel Features
- Shaped to hug and blend into the LX 700h body lines
- Bolt-on cover plates with the Dissent badge and louvers
- Louvers are bent outward to shed water away from the inlet
- Our airflow testing shows a gain in airflow over the factory intake
- Cover plates and louvers can be custom powder coated to match your wheels or color scheme; this build is finished in a dark burnt bronze
And if you like hearing the turbos, you'll hear them through the snorkels with the windows down.
Roll the windows up, and the LX's acoustic glass keeps the cabin quiet.
The Leader in Lexus Portal Axle Installations

If you're looking for a Lexus portal axle installer, this is what we do. Counting the GX and LX platforms, we've installed roughly 40 sets of 74 Weld portal axles to date, by far more than any other shop in the country, all on Lexus and Toyota trucks. We almost always have a portal build in the shop or portals on the shelf.
On the LX 700h specifically, we worked directly with 74 Weld to develop the portal axle setup for this platform, and we're currently the only shop doing portal installs on the 700h.
Lexus Portal Axle Install Shop (Lexus LX 700 & GX 550 Experts):
- Breather lines, ABS lines, and wiring are all routed cleanly after years of testing
- We know the portal boxes inside and out, so if something comes up, we can troubleshoot it right away
- We keep 74Weld spare parts (input gears, idler gears, shafts, bearings, seals, etc.) on hand and work directly with 74 Weld, so your truck isn't sitting for weeks waiting on parts. You won't find this type of Portal Axle service in any other off-road shop, guaranteed.
- Custom OEM-Spec inner fender liners: full clearance for 37" and even 38" tires
- Sensor calibration and safety system checks after every install
In addition to all this, we also provide your break-in service...
Portal Axle Break-In Service

This is something we offer that very few shops do: a full break-in service.
When we build a truck, we're essentially tearing down a brand new vehicle and putting it back together with all new parts. Some issues don't show up until around 100 miles or so, so we don't want you to be the one finding them.
During break-in, we put the miles on the truck ourselves, including time on semi-rough and bumpy roads.
Portal Axle Break-In Services
- Change the portal oil
- Complete a full torque check
- Bed in the brakes
- Track down and fix any clunks or rattles
- Verify alignment, steering, and that every sensor and safety system is calibrated and happy
Our customers travel from all over the country, and all over the world, to pick up their trucks.
When you fly in and drive your truck home, we want it ready for the road trip. Break-in is a paid service, and we do it on every build unless a customer's timeline doesn't allow for the miles.
Baja Designs Lighting

We offer Baja Designs and Rigid lighting packages on all of our Lexus builds, and we stick with those two brands for a reason: they're proven, the fitment is dialed on our armor, and they hold up. This build runs Baja Designs throughout:
- Baja Designs 30" S8 Light Bar (Clear) in the front bumper
- Baja Designs S2 SAE Triple Fog Light Package in the front bumper
- Baja Designs S2 Wide Cornering reverse lights in the rear bumper
Rigid Rock Light Kit (8 Lights)

An eight light Rigid rock light kit lights up the ground around all four corners, so you can see exactly where the tires are going on the trail at night, and around camp once you've parked. Like everything else on this truck, the wiring is routed with an OCD level of attention. Our 12v wiring is handled by guys the really focus on the details.
Power Brake X-Line Front Big Brake Kit

This build features a Power Brake X-Line big brake kit on the front. The factory LX brakes are very good, and for most builds they're plenty, even on portals and 37s. Our usual advice is to drive the truck first, and if you feel you want more, we'll install them.
That said, if you want the upgrade, it's a great product, and it looks seriously high end through the spokes of a set of Volks.
We offer the Power Brake kit on the front axle of our LX builds.
Pelican 1750 Protector Cases + StarBatt

On the roof, this build runs Pelican 1750 Protector Cases along with StarBatt. Long, tough, waterproof storage that mounts very well on our rack.
When it comes to overland gear, we stick with tried and true products. Every product you see on our builds is something we've tested and know how to fit so that it's functional.
There's a lot that goes into a roof setup: not just what you're storing, but how it's stored, wind noise, overall height, how it mounts to the rack, and what else fits around it.
Our approach is to build the vehicle first, then outfit it with as much or as little overland gear as you want, from awnings and rooftop tents to cases, fridges, and power.
ADGU Drawer System + Overland Outfitting

For drawer systems, Air Down Gear Up (ADGU) is our go-to and they work very well on the Lexus LX 700 and GX 550. It's a clean, well-built system that fits the platform and keeps everything organized and locked down on the trail.
From there, we can take the interior as far as you want:
- Third row delete
- Drawer systems and camp kitchens
- Fridges and fridge slides
- Second battery setups and 12V power systems
- Full electrical builds for lighting and accessories
We build the truck around how you'll actually use it, then fine-tune the accessories to match.
37" Nitto Terra Grappler + Volk TE37 Wheels

This LX 700h sits on 37" Nitto Terra Grapplers wrapped around Volk TE37s. The wheel and tire combo comes in at about 94 lbs. That's insane for a wheel/tire package. Absolutely madness.
We're happy to build around the wheel and tire package you want, as long as it's a quality option that works. On tires, we typically run Nitto or Toyo. On wheels, we have a few we steer customers toward, but the real priority is fitment around portal axles.
Offset, backspacing, and clearance all have to work with the portals, the inner fenders, and the flares, and it has to look right. We won't put something on a truck just because it was picked from a catalog.
How a Dissent Full Build Works

Most of our customers find us the same way: they see one of our builds and want one just like it. Here is how the process works in a bit more detail.
- Get a rough quote. Send us the build you want to replicate or something you like, or tell us what you're after, and we'll get you a rough quote by email.
- Consultation. Once you're ready to move forward, we'll walk through the build in detail, talk about how you'll use the truck, and put together a full itemized list.
- Reserve your build slot. A 50% non-refundable deposit reserves your time slot and gets all of your parts built and ordered, so everything is ready when your truck arrives.
- Get the truck here. We don't handle shipping directly, but we work with a number of transport companies and will help you arrange it. When the truck arrives, we do a full inspection and sign off on it before taking delivery.
- Don't have the truck yet? We can't purchase it for you, but we can point you to dealers we've worked with.
- The build. Most builds take about 2.5 to 3 weeks. With break-in, we schedule 3 to 4 weeks to play it safe. Your truck is stored indoors every night, and we'll keep you updated with photos along the way.
- Pick up and drive home. Fly in, pick it up, and drive it home, or we'll help you arrange transport back.
Not in a rush?
Some customers ship us their truck for a longer-term build that we work in around our schedule, which is a great option if you're flexible on timing.
Final Thoughts

This Lexus LX 700h Overtrail Portal Axle build is a good look at what a full Dissent build is: 74 Weld portal axles, 37" Nittos on Volks, our full in-house armor line, custom dual snorkels, custom aluminum inner fender liners, and a full break-in service.
Every Dissent part was designed and fabricated here, and every part on the truck was installed here, in Colfax, CA, by our team.
We don't do one-off bolt-on services. We build complete Lexus and Toyota trucks, start to finish, with a level of detail and an OEM-spec finish you won't find at another off-road shop.
