Supercharged 200 Series Land Cruiser Build: 74 Weld Portals on 40s, Built In-House in Colfax, CA

Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series Build: Supercharged on 74 Weld Portals, Tundra Long Travel, Built In-House in Colfax, CA
This Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series came into our shop in Colfax, CA, for a full build, and it left as one of the most capable LC200s we've ever put together.
The build features 74 Weld portal axles, 40" tires, a full tub for tire clearance, and a complete Dissent armor package. Every Dissent part on this truck was designed and fabricated in-house, and for the most part, every part on the truck was installed in-house by our off-road shop build team, outside of the blower and the Tundra Long Travel kit.
If you're looking for a similar build, just reach out. We're always around. We'd love to chat about your project.
Centered around our signature Dissent Off-Road spec
Full Dissent armor, Dissent roof rack, 74 Weld portal axles, a dual swing-out rear bumper, an overland drawer system, and a wheel/tire package that no off-the-shelf part was made to accommodate. This time we went bigger than our usual 700H builds on portals or GX550. Fitting 40s on portals meant a full rear tub and a new cab mount, front fender and wheel well trimming, all done here at the shop.
If you're looking for a high-end Land Cruiser off-road shop that specializes in portal axle installs, oversize tire fitment, custom 12V systems, and an OEM-spec finish, you will find it with Dissent Off-Road. We tend to go the extra mile on these builds.
Dissent is more than an armor manufacturer.
Sure, we offer some of the highest-quality 200 series Land Cruiser parts in the industry, but we also offer an off-road shop dedicated to building some pretty impressive rigs.
We build some of the most dialed Toyota/Lexus trucks out there. Full builds, done right the first time.
The finishing touch on this one is a full Kingsport Grey package.
The 74 Weld forged beadlocks and our Dissent badges are finished in Prismatic Kingsport Grey, and the Agency6 hardware is left raw to match. Subtle for sure, but it really ties the whole build together.
Without any more, let's jump into this LC200 build.
LC200 Aluminum Low Profile Modular Front Bumper

Let's start with the front bumper...
Our LC200 low profile front bumper is a hybrid of steel and aluminum, with a modular design built to tuck tight to the 200 Series body lines and keep weight off the front end. On a heavy platform like the LC200, every pound you keep off the front-end makes a huge difference for wheeling and general everyday driving.
Accessories on this setup:
- ComeUp Seal Slim 12.5rsi winch
- Agency6 Winch Shackle Block in raw, part of the Kingsport Grey package
- Baja Designs 30" S8 Light Bar (Clear) in the center
- Baja Designs S2 SAE Triple Fog Light Package on each side
LC200 Dual Swing-Out Rear Bumper

For the rear, this build is running our LC200 Dual Swing-Out Rear Bumper.
The driver side carries a 6-lug tire carrier swing-out holding the full-size 40" spare. The passenger side runs our ladder swing-out with custom Rotopax mounts we built for this truck.
Like all our swing-outs, they're wildly easy to open, gas strut-assisted so they'll never close on you, and they latch themselves when you slam them shut. Arguably one of the best latches in the game.
Accessories on this setup:
- Dissent Combo Lights (Stop/Turn/Reverse) with tinted lenses
- Rear camera relocation
- Rear license plate light
- Custom Rotopax mounts on the ladder swing-out
LC200 Rock Slider Steps

Our LC200 rock slider steps protect the rocker panels and doors, which is some of the most expensive body damage you can get when wheeling. And we have tested the living daylights out of these sliders on other 200 series trucks. Very stout sliders.
They're rated for the full weight of the vehicle, tuck up tight to the body, and are topped with our supergrip texture for sure footing when getting in and out.
On a truck running 40s and portals, you're going to hit your sliders less, but when you do, it's nice to know you have a set that's built to take a gnarly hit.
LC200 Aluminum Roof Rack + Black Stainless Hardware

Our LC200 aluminum roof rack hugs the 200 Series roofline and gives you a killer platform for lighting and gear. It's finished with our black stainless hardware upgrade. Corrosion-resistant like standard stainless, but the black finish disappears into the rack instead of catching your eye at every bolt.
Accessories on this setup:
- Baja Designs XL Linkable LED Light Bar, 8 pods, in the front fairing
- Baja Designs Scene Lighting Kit, 6 pack, around the rack
- Two sets of Agency6 grab handles in raw
With 8 XL pods up front and 6 scene lights around the truck, this LC200 is seriously lit at night and designed for practical use on the trail and at camp. Just a dialed lighting setup all the way around.
74 Weld Gen 2 Portal Axles

Portal axles are where we really separate ourselves.
Dissent is currently the largest buyer and installer of 74 Weld portal axles in the country, with more portal installs on Toyota and Lexus trucks than any other shop in the US to date.
We almost always have a few portal builds in the shop and/or portals/poarts on the shelf for maintenance.
This 200 series LC runs a Gen 2 74W portal axle setup. Portals give you a massive gain in ground clearance (around 4") and gearing (22% reduction) without touching the factory suspension or factory gears.
Arguably one of the most impressive suspension mods you can do on an IFS truck.
We have years of testing/installing portals:
- Breather lines, ABS lines, and wiring are all routed cleanly after years of testing
- We know the portal boxes inside and out, so if something comes up, we can troubleshoot it instantly. Zero customer service/guidance needed from 74W on our end.
- We keep 74 Weld spare parts on hand and work directly with 74 Weld, so your truck isn't sitting for weeks waiting on parts
- Sensor calibration and safety system checks after every install
40" Tire Fitment: Tubbing & Cab Mount Chop

Fitting 40" on most IFS trucks is a challenge, but we have it down to a science.
To get 40s to clear on this LC200 at full lock and full stuff, we went with a full rear tub and fabricated a new cab mount. This isn't a "cut the fender and send it" job. It's high-end fabrication, and supporting fender well parts that no other off-road shop sells or makes.
Supporting Parts
- Perry Parts bump stops to control up travel
- Icon tubular rear lower control arms
- Custom 1.25" rear wheel spacers to dial in the rear track
The goal is the same as every Dissent build: bigger tire, full clearance for extreme off-road use so the tire actually cycles all the way up without destroying fenders and fender flares, and finally, a finished look.
Where most shops will clear your tires for on-road, we will cycle them and make sure everything works for off-road use.
40x13.5 Milestar X/T Pro + 74 Weld Forged Beadlocks

This 200 Series sits on five 40x13.5 Milestar X/T Pro tires wrapped around 74 Weld forged beadlocks, powder coated in Prismatic Kingsport Grey.
Forged beadlocks let you air down low without worrying about popping a bead.
We don't just run any wheel off the shelf. Every wheel is specifically selected for the best possible offset, backspacing, and clearance. All these things have to work together with the portals, the fender well, and the body... all while looking right.
We won't put something on a truck just because it was picked from a catalog. We choose this wheel spec for this truck because they look great and fit incredibly well.
Custom Dual Battery System

This truck is built to stay out for days at a time, so we designed and built a custom dual battery system with full battery management.
Supporting Parts
- 320Ah house battery
- 50 amp Victron DC-DC charger
- NOCO 2 bank charger
- 2000W Redarc inverter
- 12V outlets with Kingpin lights
Our 12V wiring is handled by guys that really focus on the details. Everything is routed and labeled with an OCD level of attention, so it's clean, serviceable, and reliable.
SwitchPro 9100 Switch Panel

With this much lighting and accessory power on the truck, a SwitchPro 9100 is the way to control it. Every light bar, pod, and scene light runs through one clean panel, wired in-house alongside the rest of the 12V build.
ARB Twin Compressor + Custom Mount

Airing up (inflating) a 40" tire can take a while. This build runs the new ARB Twin Brushless Compressor with the ARB manifold kit, on a custom mount we fabricated here at the shop. With a new brushless compressor, this 200 Series will air up in no time.
ADGU Drawer System with Fridge and Sleeper

For drawer systems, Air Down Gear Up (ADGU) is our go-to.
This build runs the ADGU drawer system with a fridge and sleeper setup, so the truck carries everything it needs and still gives you a flat place to sleep inside the Land Cruiser.
Delivered in Moab

We didn't just hand over the keys in Colfax or even ship this Land Cruiser to the owner after the build.
We towed this build out to Moab and delivered it right where it was built to be. Not a bad way to start ownership of a truck like this.
We don't offer this for every build we put together but when it makes sense and we get to make a wheeling trip out of it, we're down.

Final Thoughts

This 200 Series Land Cruiser is a good look at what a full Dissent build is: 74 Weld portal axles, 40" tires that clear off-road, 74 Weld forged beadlocks, a full tub, our full in-house armor line, in-house custom fabrication to clean up the fender wells, a custom dual battery system, dialed drawer system, OCD-level wiring, and the Kingsport Grey package.
Every Dissent part was designed and fabricated at our shop, and every part on the truck was installed here, in Colfax, CA.
We don't offer one-off bolt-on services. We build complete Toyota and Lexus trucks, start to finish, with a level of detail and an OEM-spec finish you won't find at another off-road shop.
If you want this exact build, or something completely custom, give us a call. We'd love to chat.
